Bayside Health (incorporating The Alfred, Caulfield General Medical Centre and Sandringham & District Memorial Hospital) is the main provider of health services to people living in the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne and a major provider of specialist statewide services to the people of Victoria. These services are provided across the continuum of care from ambulatory, to inpatient and home and community based services.
Specialist services include trauma services, emergency and intensive care, comprehensive cancer services, blood diseases, respiratory medicine, melanoma, bone marrow transplant, cardiology / cardiovascular services, neurosurgery, general and specialist surgery and medicine, psychiatry and diagnostic services.
The Alfred's statewide services include heart and lung replacement and transplantation, cystic fibrosis, burns, HIV/AIDS, haemophilia, sexual health, hyperbaric medicine, trauma, burns and elective surgery.
The Alfred provides acute and mental health care services to the residents of the local municipalities to meet the health needs of the local community. These services are provided in a range of inpatient and ambulatory settings and in partnership with other community providers.
The Alfred Occupational Therapy Service strives to enhance people’s quality of life, by enabling them to participate in their chosen life activities.
Occupational therapists have the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills in the areas of medical specialities, neuro-musculoskeletal, aged care and mental health. Specialist occupational therapy services include:
- Burns/scar management
- Cystic fibrosis, including paediatric lung transplant
- Driving assessment and rehabilitation
- Heart and lung transplants
- HIV and infectious diseases
- Lymphedema management
- Splinting and upper limb injury management
- Trauma
- Complex needs discharge planning
Caulfield General Medical Centre (CGMC) is a major service provider in the areas of aged care, rehabilitation, community services and aged mental health. CGMC is a designated Centre Promoting Health Independence established to provide an integrated range of specialist assessment and treatment options for older and younger people with complex needs. These services are provided in hospital, in the community and at home. In addition, the hospital has a statewide role in the provision of rehabilitation services to people throughout Victoria.

Prior to commencement of the Alfred Hospital tour, short presentations will be held, highlighting the various specialty areas in which The Alfred Occupational Therapists work.
Delegates will then have the opportunity of visiting many of the specialty areas, depending on their clinical focus or interest.
